Candle Care & Safety
A ritual only works if it's safe to actually do. Here's how to get the most out of your Aura Aligned candle — and burn it the right way.
Before You Light It (First Burn Matters)
- Trim the wick to 1/4 inch before every burn — this keeps the flame steady and prevents soot
- Let the first burn run long enough for the wax to melt edge to edge (the "full melt pool"). Skipping this can cause tunneling, where your candle burns a hole down the middle instead of evenly
- Always burn on a stable, heat-resistant, level surface
While It's Burning
- Never leave a burning candle unattended
- Keep it away from drafts, curtains, papers, and anything flammable
- Keep pets and children away from the flame
- Keep the wax pool clear of debris — trimmed wick pieces, matches, or packaging
- Don't burn for more than 4 hours at a time. Let it cool completely before relighting
A Note on Your Vessel
Signature Series (concrete): The vessel may become warm to the touch as the candle burns down, especially near the base. Handle with care in the final hour of a burn, and always set it on a sturdy, level surface — these vessels have real weight to them.
Affirmation Collection (glass): Standard glass candle care applies — avoid sudden temperature changes (like setting a hot jar on a cold surface), and don't touch the jar directly after an extended burn.
When to Stop Burning
Stop burning when about 1/4 inch of wax remains at the bottom of the vessel. Never burn a candle down to the very bottom — this protects both your vessel and your wick's sustainer tab.
Storing Between Burns
- Keep out of direct sunlight — fragrance and color can fade over time
- Store away from heat sources
- If your candle comes with a lid, use it between burns to help preserve the fragrance
After the Candle Is Finished
Both our concrete and glass vessels are meant to have a second life. Clean out any remaining wax, wash the vessel, and reuse it as a planter, a catchall, or an organizer — a small way to make the ritual last past the last burn.
Safety Reminders
- Keep out of reach of children and pets at all times
- Never leave a burning candle unattended
- Burn on a heat-resistant, level surface, away from anything flammable
- Never move a lit or still-hot candle
- Discontinue use if the wick becomes off-center or if the flame becomes unusually large
